Before

Monday: copy notes → write update → chase actions.

After

Monday: review draft → fix 1 line → approve.

“Use AI at work,” they said. Nobody showed you how.

You've probably tried it. You asked a chatbot to help with something real, and:

  • It made something up, and now you double-check everything, which defeats the point.
  • It worked once, then broke on the next real example.
  • There are too many tools, and every tutorial assumes you'll pay for three subscriptions.
  • You're not sure what you're allowed to paste into it at work.

None of that means AI can't help with your job. It means you were handed powerful tools without a method.

One task. Done properly.

Instead of “learn everything about AI,” we start small and finish:

  1. Pick

The right first task, with the One Boring Task Score: frequent, clear, and easy to check.

  2. Build

A simple agent for it in tools you already have, on free tiers wherever possible.

  3. Test

On your own real examples, so trust comes from evidence, not hope.

  4. Protect

Private data, with simple traffic-light rules.

  5. Keep it running

    When tools change.

AI drafts, you decide.

What you'll build

  • A chat-based assistant

For a recurring task, such as turning meeting notes into action items or drafting your weekly report.

  • An inbox helper

Sorts messages and drafts replies for your approval. It never sends on its own.

  • A no-code workflow

Turns a form or email into a summary, logs it to a sheet and drafts a notification.

  • Your own agent for your own boring task

With a test log, guardrails and a one-page “Agent Card” you can show your manager.

Examples use free tiers where available. Free-tier limits change; we tell you what's current when you take the course.

Is this for you?

It's for you if:

  • You work in operations, admin, marketing, sales, HR, finance, customer service, or run a small business
  • You've been asked to “use AI” but never got real training
  • You want something you can rely on, not a party trick
  • You don't code and don't want to

It's not for you if:

  • You want to “start an AI agency” or a get-rich-quick plan. We don't teach that, and we don't make income promises.
  • You're a developer looking for advanced frameworks
  • You want AI to make decisions about people, money or legal matters without human review

Common worries (and how we handle them)

“It makes things up. I'd have to double-check everything anyway.”

You should check, at least at first. The kit gives you a 7-point Trust Checklist and instructions that make the AI quote where each item came from and write “CHECK:” when it's unsure. You test it on your own real examples before relying on it, and nothing goes to another person without your approval. AI drafts, you decide.

“Every tutorial assumes three paid subscriptions.”

The kit and 5-day course work on free plans of common AI assistants. In the full course, paid options are marked as optional, with current prices. Free tiers have limits that change, so we date-stamp them and show you how to stay within them.

“It worked once, then broke on the next real example.”

That usually comes down to the task, the instructions or a tool change. That's why we start with a task that scores well, test on 5–10 real examples, and use a simple 4-question troubleshooting check: did the input change, did the instructions drift, did the tool change, or did you hit a limit?

“There's a new AI tool every day. I don't know where to start.”

You need one AI assistant you're allowed to use, the place your data already lives, and (later) one automation tool. Use the one your workplace permits. The method works across them.

“I'm not sure what I'm allowed to paste at work.”

The Data Traffic Lights sheet sorts information into green, amber and red, with a two-line template for asking your manager or IT. When in doubt, leave it out. (General guidance, not legal advice. Your company's policy comes first.)

“My company wants AI adoption but gave us no training.”

Start with one small, checkable win you can explain. The full course ends with a one-page Agent Card (what it does, what data it uses, how it's checked) that you can show your manager.

“I don't code.”

No coding anywhere. If you can fill in a form and copy a template, you can do the kit.

“I can't take on a big project.”

The kit takes about 15 minutes, and each email in the 5-day course is one short action.

Who's behind One Boring Task

Built by the One Boring Task team. We're a small online education brand. We make practical, screen-recorded how-tos on AI at work, tested on free tiers first. We care about one thing: whether a tool actually works on real, boring, everyday tasks, and whether you can trust what it produces.

How we make our videos: our videos use real screen recordings, slides and an AI-generated voice. Scripts are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a person. Every demo is a real run on sample data.

FAQ

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Everything uses chat tools and no-code tools.

Do I need to pay for AI tools?

Not to get started. The free kit and the 5-day email course work on free plans. In the full course, every project has a free path where one exists, and anything paid is marked as optional, with its current price. Free-tier limits change, so we date-stamp them.

Which AI tools does it use?

The method works with the major assistants (for example ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot) and common no-code automation tools. Use whichever your workplace allows. We're not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these companies.

How much time will this save me?

It depends on your task, your tools and your workplace. We don't promise a number. We do show you how to measure your own before-and-after time, so you'll know.

Is it safe to use AI with work data?

It can be, if you follow your company's rules and keep sensitive data out. The kit includes a simple traffic-light system, and the course has a full privacy module. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

What's the waitlist for?

I'm in the Gulf, the US or somewhere else. Is this for me?

Yes. It's in English, for professionals anywhere. Lessons and walkthroughs are recorded, and questions are answered in writing, so it works in any time zone.

Is there a real person narrating the videos?

No. Our videos use real screen recordings and an AI-generated voice. The scripts are reviewed by a person, and every demo is a real run on sample data.
